South Pier Yields Limit On First Attempt

Went out fishing at daylight today. Decided to try South Pier for first time this year. Made a few moves, and found the spot. Got a 30 perch limit. Size from 8-14 inches. North East wind, frigid. Steady rain. Was soaked and miserable, but pounding perch. Couldn't feel hands or legs, wind terrible with rain soaking in. Braved it for a limit of perch. Gotta give credit to my buddy Jeff for sticking it out with me. When I left he was close to filling his limit and as a true die hard percher, was still fighting the weather. Outstanding bite today with perch everywhere. Can't wait to chase them again. So far a great run in the bay this year for Lake Erie Perch.

Border Patrol Still Producing Nice Perch

Headed out for a night fishing trip. Fished from 6:00-8:30. Landed 5 nice sized perch. Strong west wind, blustery but not too frigid. Front came through and just missed us hitting to the South. A little spray and some lightning was about it. My buddy Jeff was on fire when I got there, landing several perch. I stayed in my spot, which produced some slabs but the action was slow. A few big perch are remaining, but you can clearly see they are thinning out. We have fished this spot exclusively for the past 3 weeks and the school is greatly being reduced. Soon I will be chasing them at the South Pier on their way out of the channel.

Hog Perch Haunt Deep Water Off Border Patrol

Went fishing early today off Border Patrol. Only caught 3 perch, but made up for it in size. 14 inch, 13 inch , and 12. Over a pound of fillets for 3 perch. Bite was slow. Fought SSE wind, rain, and light snow. Very numbing cold. My buddy Jeff fought the weather with me, and he ended up with some very nice jumbo perch. Perch are thinning out at this spot, starting to load up on the piers. But the fish remaining are some fine large fish.

Border Patrol Hot for Slab Perch

Went out at first light today off Border Patrol. Cold temps with rain and snow in the morning. Light West winds water temp 41. Jumbo perch hit hard all morning. Bucket full. Perch were big, just freshly spawned out. Nice thick backs with large fillets for the freezer. Wish my buddy Jeff would have gotten up this morning, he missed a good day.

Some Slabs For The Bucket

Went perch fishing this morning. Got there early, met a group of guys. Ended with 6 slabs for the morning. Sunny, light East wind. Not good for perch fishing. Bite was slow, but size was there. Best action was when clouds appeared. Had a good time with a great bunch of guys. Was my buddy Mike there? Nope. Anyways, there will be many more trips perchin this season. It is only the beginning.

Start To Perch Season A Good One

Finally pier fishing has begun. This is the best time of year to fish for Lake Erie perch from the Erie shoreline. Was great to put some line in the water. Fished the Border Patrol today and landed 10 quality fish. Nice slabs with good color and thickness. West wind, strong and bitter. Sunny skies early turning to cloudy. Bite was on before the front. Lots of guys out today, mostly catching little ones. Found the spot. You have to think about deep water for the big ones. Late bite, around 9:30. My buddy Jeff and I were the only ones into the hogs. Hopefully we can get our bud Mike out for a day of perch fishing. I will be fishing for the perch for the next 6-8 weeks, so check back and see how the bite is going.

Take A Kid Pheasant Hunting In PA

Took my son on his first pheasant hunt. Went to a local Game Farm and let him walk with me a few hours. We had a blast! Managed 10 pheasants. He was very excited and soon he hopes to shoot birds on his own. He is 8 and learning gun safety and hunting tactics now. As sportsman, we have to introduce out youth to the outdoors.
